The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) announced today that it has been awarded an ISO 9001 Certificate for the design and provision of information technology services. The award represents a recognition of SFC’s effort and discipline in ensuring consistent quality and continuous improvement of its IT services.
Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency and British Standards Institution-Quality Assurance have jointly awarded the certificate to the SFC after examining extensively on the operations of SFC’s computer data centre and helpdesk services. Based on available information, the SFC is the first securities regulator in Asia to obtain such a certificate on IT related services.
“High quality IT has enabled us to perform our functions more effectively and efficiently. The SFC believes in practising what it preaches. We aim to raise our IT services to the highest level possible to help serve the community better, ” said SFC Chairman Mr Andrew Sheng.
“ISO 9001 certification for SFC’s internal operations will give us experience to plan to raise IT services in the securities and futures community. Through the proposed expansion of SDNet and FinNet, we hope to further improve the quality of IT services to enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an international financial centre,” Mr Sheng said.
Obtaining the ISO 9001 certification is to formalise the control and monitoring of a reliable and secure computer operations environment to support various mission critical systems of SFC, such as its market surveillance system, market intelligent system, critical communication systems, and business continuity operations.
