The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) announces today that a new series of Cantonese investor education radio segments entitled “Learning To Invest”, will begin airing on 1 May on RTHK Radio 2. There is also a quiz after each segment.
In 1998 and 1999, similar education radio programmes launched by the SFC on RTHK’s Putonghua and other Cantonese channels received positive response.
This radio programme is the latest in a variety of investor education initiatives by the SFC. There are fourteen 5-minute segments, which through lively dialogues, cover various issues investors should consider when dealing with stockbrokers, trading online and in situations like initial public offerings and rights issues.
The producer, RTHK, has arranged Ms Louisa Wong to be the voice of the main character in the series.
Throughout the month of May, the segment will air on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at around 8:05 am in the “Morning Suite” programme, which is broadcast every morning on RTHK’s Radio 2 (FM 94.8 - 96.9) and Putonghua Channel (AM 621) simultaneously, and on the Internet, at its website http://www.rthk.org.hk.
After each episode, the audience can participate in a competition. There are attractive cash prizes for the winners.
“As a regulator, the SFC does not and cannot tell investors what and when to invest, but we need to ensure that investors understand the risks that they are entered into and are well informed of their rights and obligations,” an SFC spokesman said.
