New Radio Series on Metro Finance - Investors' Mastermind
11 May 2001
A new series of investor education radio segments, "Investors' Mastermind", which is sponsored by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), will begin airing this Saturday, 12 May 2001, on Metro Finance.
There are 24 five-minute episodes in this radio series. Each segment will feature a short drama based on issues that investors may encounter, followed by advice from market professionals on matters investors should consider when engaging in such investment activities.
Each story has a different theme. They are about investment experiences of fictional investors who often have improper investment attitude and fail to do their homework before investing or fail to monitor their investments.
The current series will highlight some common misconceptions on a variety of investment products, such as stocks (including GEM and penny stocks), warrants, funds, guaranteed funds, index futures, as well as the use of services like on-line trading and margin accounts. Market malpractice including unauthorised transactions on account, misappropriation, and the ways to avoid these pitfalls will also be explained.
These new segments follow a positive response to the previous series on Metro Finance, broadcast from February to April, entitled "Investment Encyclopaedia". The last series comprised 60 one-minute episodes, which through lively dialogues, discussed key facts investors should know in trading stocks, funds and derivatives.
Beginning 12 May 2001, the series will run for 12 consecutive weeks on Metro Finance at frequency FM 102.4 - 106.3 and on the Internet at its website http://www.104metrofinance.com. Two episodes will be broadcast each Saturday, at 9:55 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. respectively.
After each episode, the audience can participate in a quiz. A winner will be drawn in each round to receive souvenirs sponsored by the SFC.
Since 1998, the SFC has jointly run investor education radio programmes with various radio stations. Some of these radio series are now available on the SFC's corporate website, located at http://www.hksfc.org.hk.
