SFC Launches Education Programmes on VCD and CD-ROM

23 Oct 2002

The Securities and Futures Commission has for the first time produced investor education VCDs and CD-ROMs for free distribution to the public.

The VCD contains a 12-episode investor video drama series recently shown on public buses. The CD-ROM contains useful information from the SFC-operated Electronic Investor Resources Centre (eIRC).

The SFC-produced video drama series, "Invest with Your Heads Up", explains stock trading and settlement procedures, and provides tips on how investors may better protect their own interests when dealing in stocks. The VCDs will broaden the reach of the investor education messages.

The contents of the CD-ROM are extracted from the eIRC at www.hkeirc.org, which is dedicated to helping investors learn about investing, find key facts about investments, and carry out investment research. The CD-ROM contains interactive games and feature articles on different investment activities and products, as well as the video drama series "Invest with Your Heads Up". The CD-ROM enables screen-based interactive learning.

The VCDs (in Cantonese only) and CD-ROMs will be primarily distributed to secondary schools, universities and investor associations free of charge. The public may also request for free copies at the SFC's office. Intermediaries who are interested may contact our Investor Education and Communications Department at 2842-7711.

Investors are welcome to contact the SFC (by email: investor.info@hksfc.org.hk or by phone: 2840-9333) if they have any feedback or enquiries on the VCDs and CD-ROMs.
