Learn More About Investing on MetroFinance

29 Jun 2006

The SFC and MetroFinance have jointly produced a new radio series to help investors learn how to ask the right questions in different investment activities to make informed decisions.

The radio series is part of the initiatives to promote the SFC’s Investor Education Theme for 2006 “Before you invest, ask the right questions”. Entitled “Learn More About Investing”, this series, composed of 18 three-minute games cum radio segments, discusses some common questions investors should ask about the features and risks of different investment products or services before they commit their money.

In each radio segment, a celebrity or academic is invited to share his/her experience on a selected theme. To make it more interactive, the audience will be asked a question and to visit the SFC’s investor education portal, InvestEd, at www.InvestEd.hk to find out the answer. Audience may email their answers to InvestEd@sfc.hk or fax them to 2123 9868 within 24 hours from 8:00 pm after the segment has been aired. The first 20 participants who give the correct answer will get an SFC souvenir, while the first caller who phones in MetroFinance at 1834204 during the next segment with the correct answer will have an opportunity to win an SFC watch.

Academics Professor Raymond So and Professor Billy Mak, artiste Ms Nancy Sit and media commentators Mr Heung Shu Fai and Mr Ng Ming Lam are among those who will appear on the radio segments.

SFC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Martin Wheatley, said: “Given the increasing complexity of investment products in the retail market, investors need to carefully assess the suitability of an investment before committing their money. This new radio programme aims to arouse investors their awareness of the issues to consider before making any investment decisions. It also allows investors to enhance their investment knowledge through the mass media and the Internet. Investors are encouraged to visit the InvestEd website more often to make the best use of our investor education portal.”

To listen to “Learn More About Investing”, investors can tune in to MetroFinance (FM102.4 – 106.3) at 7:20 pm every Tuesday and Thursday starting from 4 July. The series is part of the “OTC Line” programme.

The audience are welcome to provide their views and feedback on this radio series to the SFC by calling the Investor Hotline at 2840 9333 or sending an email to InvestEd@sfc.hk.

Since 1998, the SFC has jointly run investor education radio programmes with various radio stations. Some of these radio series are now available on the “Studio” section of the InvestEd website.
